LEAP

LEAP is a weeklong Summer Youth Workshop Series for 7th - 12th graders who are interested in developing their culinary skills, acting out in improv, experimenting in STEM, building their skills in construction, fixing to learn in automotive, and having a lot of fun!

During LEAP students will: Learn skills during their specific workshop. Experience new friendships and relationships. Students will be an Apprentice to skilled qualified leaders in each field. Finally, our goal is to help Prepare students for life.

Workshops

Each student will chose a workshop for LEAP. Check out our workshop options below!

  • automotive

This will be a 'get your hands dirty' workshop where students will learn the safety of car repair, how an engine works, and how to do car maintenance (check fluids, change oil, replace brakes, change a tire), the basics of car detailing, and MORE!

  • Construction

This is a hands-on workshop designed to teach students a few of the basic skills of building construction. This workshop will highlight some of the foundational trades that are part of the building process to create a final project everyone can be proud of. Students will work as a team, receive basic education of tools and their functions, work with a variety of tools (saws, drills, sanders, etc), try their hands at basic woodworking skills, and learn to assess repairs as part of maintenance of projects.

  • culinary

Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? As we journey through LEAP’s culinary workshop we will explore nutritious ingredients, experiment with herbs and spices, and try our hand at different culinary techniques. Just for fun we will have “taste offs” to see who can create unique twists on some foods we all know and love.

  • improv dramedy

Love spontaneous comedy?  Like making people laugh? Or do you just wish you were better at talking to people and thinking on your feet? This LEAP workshop introduces the basics of improv, provides an opportunity to put those principles into practice through improv games, and connects these principles to the ways it can help you on and off the stage. We develop plots, characters, and dialogue which are all created in the moment. This spontaneous art ensures no improv show will ever be the same as the next! No acting experience is necessary. Come as you are and create the unexpected!

  • Machine sewing

Students will learn some basic sewing and quilting skills by making 4 projects during the week. A pot holder as a thank you gift to the borrowed machine’s owner, a bowl cozy that we will use to hold our sewing supplies, a tote bag, and a zipper pouch. We will also make a lap quilt together that will be given as a gift.

  • STEM (Electronics)

The Electronics Track for the 2024 LEAP Program will give students exposure to engineering principles in a fun and engaging setting.  Understanding the fundamentals of electricity, circuits, and software, students will gain hands-on experience learning how to design, build, and program small electronics while utilizing all four STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and math).
