What is LEAP 1-Day??
During LEAP 1-Day students currently in 6th-12th will:
Learn skills during specific workshops such as (workshops)
Experience new friendships and relationships.
Be an Apprentice to skilled and qualified leaders in one of the specialized workshops.
And finally, our goal is to help Prepare students for life.
Creative Writing
What’s your story? Students will participate in activities, games, and discussions that will enrich their desire to write creatively and teach helpful skills for great storytelling!
Cookie Baking & Decorating
Nothing is better than the smell of homemade cookies baking…except eating them! This workshop will help you perfect your cookie baking skills and satisfy your sweet tooth. Next, we will try our artistic skills and learn a variety of cookie decorating techniques and practice your skills.
Hand Sewing & Embroidery
Students will learn basic hand sewing skills ( sewing on a button, hemming a garment, sewing on patch) and basic hand embroidery by practicing various stitches and completing a design on a hoop.
Improv Dramedy
Love spontaneous comedy? Like making people laugh? Or do you just wish you were better at talking to people and thinking on your feet? This LEAP workshop introduces the basics of improv, provides an opportunity to put those principles into practice through improv games, and connects these principles to the ways it can help you on and off the stage. We develop plots, characters, and dialogue which are all created in the moment. This spontaneous art ensures no improv show will ever be the same as the next! No acting experience is necessary. Come as you are and
create the unexpected!
RePercussion
RePercussion is a team-based drumming experience that transforms everyday objects into instruments, turning individuals into a synchronized rhythmic
force. The workshop will culminate in a STOMP-style performance, where participants apply what they’ve learned to craft a dynamic and engaging rhythmic composition.
STEM: The Science of Music
In STEM, we look at how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math work together to create the things we use everyday. In this year’s Leap 1-Day, our STEM theme will be, “The Science of Music." Students will learn what sound waves
are, how they are made, and how we can put them together to create music in various forms.
Upholstery
From the Inside Out What’s Upholstery All About??
This is a “hands on” workshop designed to teach a few of the basic skills of furniture upholstery and repair. This workshop is just the beginning but will highlight a few of the foundational skills that are part of the furniture upholstery process to create a final project everyone can be proud of. More details will be coming soon!
